A Little Moonlight Prayer

Oh moon... are you alone and lost too?

Do the twinkling stars remind you of

The one you wish you were?

Do you... ever look upon the Earth?

As you shine your softened light

Do you hear our softened words?

The sad, the lonely, and the mute

Who look upon your face?

Who fill their minds with thoughts

That die upon their tongues?

Who feel the light you shine on us

As we block you with our hand?

A brightness just beyond dim lights

That I run towards to seek?

With hope, I give a little prayer under your moonlight

Though knowing you don't hear, still I confide

One day when I reach the stars, I hope to be you

Something that can be there, and shine upon the Earth

Maybe it's a foolish prayer to offer to you

After all... the moon cannot reply...

With hope, I give a little prayer under your moonlight

For even at my lowest, you in the sky remain

One day when I reach the stars, I'll cry no more

I'll be like you - a beacon in the dark

Maybe it's a foolish prayer to offer to you

After all... I know no one can hear...

But that won't stop me trying

Even if it's pointless

Even if it's worthless

I'll say my little prayer to you.
